Study for Pictureframe Moulding

Plaster run-in-place on existing wall. 2019

This installation was created while working abroad and explores ideas around memory and notions of home. The plaster mouldings that make up this piece were run in place on the existing wall, creating a site-specific artwork made with historic plaster working techniques.. The picture frame form and moulding profile shape were created from memory of the decorative moldings in my very first New York City apartment. This apartment has since been gut renovated; the walls and moldings this installation references no longer exist. Upon reflection, I realize that the original plaster mouldings this piece references may bear little similarity to the final artwork.
