Artwork > Falsework

This piece was a timely response to the collapse of a portion of the MacArthur Maze, an interchange where the 80, 880 and 580 freeways converge in the approach to the SF-Oakland Bay Bridge. This artwork was created in San Francisco just a few weeks after an accident that involved a tanker truck crash set the Maze on fire, weakening the structure. The term "falsework" refers to temporary supports erected to support a structure during construction. In this case, the falsework erected under the MacArthur Maze during repairs would support the structure once the maze opened to traffic until the section of freeway was completely reconstructed.
